Search of new physics via η rare decays

An experimental program to study η rare decays with high precision and high statistics has been under development at Jefferson Lab with a 12 GeV energy upgrade to test fundamental symmetries of QCD. The first suggested experiment is to measure η → π0γγ and η → π0π0 channels simultaneously in Hall D. Three experimental techniques will be used to obtain the desired precision and statistics. This will include: (1) a 12 GeV high intensity tagged photon beam for η production through γ p → η p reaction; (2) tagging the η’s by measuring the recoil p with the GlueX detector; and (3) a high resolution, high granularity PbWO4 calorimeter to detect multiphotons from the η decays.
